Winter (December - February)
During the winter, the sky is clear and vibrant, revealing the breathtaking eastern Himalayas. The cold, dry, and pure air of this season brings the majestic black-necked cranes to migrate across the skies to the Phobjikha Valley, a seasonal migration that warms the heart.
Winter temperatures range from below freezing to a maximum of about 18°C. The cool and peaceful atmosphere of the season invites visitors to be enchanted by the charm of nature and the pristine beauty that Bhutan's winter has to offer.
Spring (March - May)
Spring is a time of renewal for nature. Apple, pear, cherry, and peach trees begin to blossom beautifully from March to April, while the rhododendron forests reach full bloom until May. Only the lucky ones will have the chance to witness the marvel of the Karanda flowers, which bloom only in the Punakha Valley during a single month.
In March, the weather remains cold, with temperatures ranging between 0-16°C, gradually warming up in April and May with temperatures ranging from a low of 4°C to a high of 26°C. It feels as though nature is awakening the world to life again during the most beautiful time of the year.
Summer (June - August)
Summer in Bhutan often brings more rain than usual. While many may mistakenly associate summer with the monsoon season in Bhutan, the rain during this time is usually light and gentle, sometimes lasting for no more than an hour. However, as autumn begins to approach, the rainfall may become slightly heavier.
The beauty of this season lies in the full bloom of nature. The summer weather supports the growth of seasonal produce, such as matsutake mushrooms and chanterelle mushrooms. Hillsides and mountain ranges, covered with rich red soil, come alive again with lush trees and dense, rejuvenated meadows. Green has become the dominant color of the season.
Temperatures during the summer season vary, ranging from a low of 13°C to a high of 30°C. The charm of Bhutans summer is full of vitality and a delightful atmosphere that is truly captivating.
Autumn (September - November)
As the fields turn to a golden hue, autumn is the time for the abundant harvest. Markets are filled with fresh, enticing produce. At the same time, the festivals held during this season are like a beautiful dream, beyond words.
The weather in autumn remains warm in September and October before it starts to cool down towards the end of the season, with temperatures dropping as low as 5°C and reaching a high of around 25°C. This season not only brings the beauty of nature but also fills the air with a sense of joy and vitality that leaves a lasting impression.
